Our Secondary Market is kind of a big deal…and here’s why.

If you’re completely new to Web3, welcome! We may be starting this article on a low note, but we promise that if you stick around, you’ll be delighted by the end of it. Let’s get to it!

The Problem

Authenticity, Scams, and Royalties.

We start off strong with the trifecta of NFT’s hot topics. A space as new as ours can be incredibly difficult to navigate: new words, new influencers . . . New everything—and in this world of novelty, there are unfortunately new dangers that you need to be aware of.

  1. Scams: There are a few pesky scammers out there that impersonate many projects and artists, which has made it quite difficult for people joining the space to distinguish between the real deal and the fake. This leads us to point two:
  2. Authenticity: Just like forgery in the traditional art world, some have perfected the art of deceit, by creating incredibly realistic copies of works, social media profiles, and even entire websites—even very experienced collectors may be fooled into one of these scams at some point.
  3. Royalties: Another hot topic as of late: artist royalties have been one of the key factors in driving artists into this space. So when one of the largest secondary market platforms made royalties optional there was quite an uproar. We could go on about this, but we have a handy article about our stance on royalties here.

Our Solution

We created a secondary market feature on our platform.

Our secondary market is:

  1. Safe and secure: You’re protected from scammers pretending to be us. Built on top of the battle-tested Seaport protocol for in-product listings while aggregating other marketplaces with Reservoir so that you know you’re getting the best price.
  2. Authentic: You’re getting real Art Blocks pieces.
  3. Pro-Artist: We enforce secondary royalties.

Want to know the nitty-gritty, tech-intensive side of our secondary market feature? Have a read of this thread by our CTO, Jake Rockland on Twitter.

We can ensure that when you’re on our platform, all you get are authentic works of art that you can safely buy from passionate collectors.
