Kenny Vaden composes generative art in R and Javascript, which depicts the beauty, turbulence, and horror of our times. Vaden’s path to creative coding started with over 15 years of scientific research, using the R Statistics Language for analyses and plots. He began sharing his experimental code art on Instagram and Reddit in 2019, joining an underground community of creative coders that spans the world. His first NFT collection, A Human in Times of Chaos, dropped on 9/1/2021, included 20 unique pieces released over a period of 20 days in 10-iteration editions that quickly sold out each day and moved into secondary sales. A broad range of art experiences informs Vaden’s algorithm-based art, including drawing, painting, stained glass, and nature photography. His artworks have been selected for the juried art exhibition at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, the permanent art collection at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), where he is a faculty member, and the juried annual art publication MUSC Humanitas, among others. Together, these artistic experiences inform his distinct style in the new and open frontier of generative art.
