The Complete Collection 2020-2025: Art Blocks 500

After five years of releasing world-class generative art, Art Blocks is approaching an exciting milestone. With 495 flagship projects to date, we will reach 500 projects published by Art Blocks in November 2025.

Art Blocks captures the essence of what happens when artists innovate within on-chain constraints. From my initial Chromie Squiggle to the international community of creators and collectors who followed, the projects in the Art Blocks 500 celebrate and preserve an era of on-chain generative art that fits neatly within a clean and robust protocol. Preservation of this work will be a continuous endeavor, and it is meaningful to us that any efforts to preserve a single project within this collection will apply to preserving the entirety of the collection. We’re excited to put a glass case around these projects and focus resources towards the ongoing work of preserving and elevating everything within.

We’re contextualizing everything released within our Curated, Playground, Factory, Presents, Collaborations and Explorations categories as a finite and complete set, with these 500 projects representing a foundational era in the generative medium.

Our passion as an organization remains committed to fully on-chain generative art. We are excited to continue supporting artists exploring the same constraints that defined our first five years within our Studio and via collaborative partnerships through Art Blocks Engine. At the same time, we are embracing an increasingly unpredictable but equally exciting future that brings new technologies (like PostParams!) that expand what is possible when leveraging the blockchain as a creative medium. By formalizing the legacy of the Art Blocks 500, we can celebrate what we’ve accomplished and experiment with what comes next.

    The Final Five

Five projects remain to be released within the Art Blocks 500 collection consisting of two more in the Curated category and three as Explorations projects.

The final two Curated releases mark the end of our curatorial program at Art Blocks. These projects are from some of the most celebrated and inspirational contemporary artists in the world and will honor the creative and highly constrained approach that defines our first 500. We’ll reveal the first one in the next few weeks.

The final three Explorations projects will be community focused, closing out the Art Blocks 500 to coincide with our five-year anniversary.

    What's Coming Next

This announcement is just the beginning. Over the coming days, weeks, and months, we'll be sharing more about how you can explore and celebrate these 500 projects, including the memories that shaped our journey over the last five years. We're building new ways to enjoy, collect, understand and share this complete collection, and launching initiatives that honor the projects, artists and community that have defined Art Blocks.

    What This Means

The Art Blocks 500 is a milestone. It is about preserving a foundation. And it marks an evolution in thinking that paves the way for us to try new things. We have bold ideas that expand beyond the current way we operate. We want to experiment, have some fun, and tinker with this incredible technology. We will continue to contribute to the movement we helped shape while simultaneously pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. We are still here, continuing to show up every day and build on the work that defines this era, and we can’t wait to celebrate this milestone with you.
