We're excited to announce Manuel Lariño as the second artist selected for the Art Blocks × OpenSea Artist Residency program in Marfa, Texas!
Beginning this June, Manuel will spend 4 weeks living at the Art Blocks casita behind our gallery, immersed in the unique environment of Marfa's art scene, while developing a new generative project.
As a Spanish-American visual artist, Manuel brings a unique perspective to generative art, approaching it as a conceptual system where the algorithm is deeply intertwined with the idea itself—where the internal mechanics of the code embody the conceptual framework of the work. His 2023 Art Blocks release, Forecast, exemplifies this philosophy by recreating a weather forecast system within the algorithm itself, where atmospheric pressure and humidity variables determine how rain falls across each generated image.
"I'm excited to slow down, sketch, and brainstorm in a place that feels so different from my day-to-day. I don't know how the desert will influence my work — and I can't wait to find out. Hoping it shapes not just what I make, but how I think." —Manuel Lariño
At the conclusion of the residency, Manuel will present his work to the local Marfa community, sharing the results of this focused creative period.
The Art Blocks × OpenSea Artist Residency program supports generative artists with 4-6 week individual residencies in Marfa, Texas. Our program provides participating artists with accommodations, a stipend, an Art Blocks Studio contract, and dedicated time to focus on developing their artwork while being surrounded by the inspiring Marfa environment and community.
