    Golan Levin

    b. 1972, New York, NY Lives and works in Pittsburgh, PA

    Golan Levin is a Pittsburgh-based artist, researcher, and educator whose work explores new intersections between machine code, visual culture, and critical making. He has worked in software art since 1995.

    Levin's work is included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), ZKM Karlsruhe, and the Cooper-Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum. It has also been exhibited at the Beall Center for Art and Technology, bitforms gallery, the Whitney Biennial, Ars Electronica, Art Center Nabi, Espacio Fundación Telefónica, ICA London, La Gaîté Lyrique, and the NTT InterCommunication Center.

    Levin earned degrees in Media Arts and Sciences from the MIT Media Laboratory. He is a Professor of electronic art in the School of Art at Carnegie Mellon University, where his pedagogy focuses on reclaiming computation as a medium of personal expression. With Tega Brain, Levin is co-author of “Code as Creative Medium,” a guide to creative coding for software arts educators.
