Inspired by the bright lights of the big city, Time Squared is an homage to New York City, brought to life through the magic of prime numbers. 

A key problem that we wanted to solve with this project is allowing visually impaired individuals to enjoy our art. As a result, these artworks feature a first-of-its-kind screen reader which contains a detailed description of the colors, movement, size, and structure of the artwork. You can activate it by enabling a screen reader such as ChromeVox and hovering over the artwork.

Time Squared

**Avalon is a series of generative maps to imaginary places.** 

Visually inspired by vintage textbooks and map collections, Avalon takes a purely aesthetical perspective on the land drop hype and the mythical realm that is the metaverse. 

The practice of mapping the imaginary reaches back to the middle ages and has been particularly popular in the renaissance era. It has always been used as tool to visualize allegories and manifest a sense of longing. In that sense, Avalon can be interpreted as a visualization of a machines wanderlust.

The series is named after the place where, according to legend, King Arthur is buried. Avalon is referred to in literary sources as an island, valley or field.

**Avalon is a dynamic collection.** Each map is positioned on a virtual globe and will go through 12.5 hour tidal cycles based on a virtual moon orbit. Maps will update every two minutes and to reflect the changing tides. 

Map labels show some basic information about each map. They include the map coordinates, maximum elevation and maximum sea depth, a topographic profile of the map and an indication of the current tidal level.

**Avalon is interactive.** Collectors can interact with and customize their maps by using a series of commands that will change some of the basic visual traits of their maps. Maps can be downloaded both as high and low resolution images directly from the art blocks preview.

**Basic commands:**
‘s’ - save image
‘i’ - toggle label on or off
‘m’ - switch between colored and monochrome versions
‘h’ - render high resolution image
'r' - refresh image in its original state

Avalon

This piece began as a formal study in composition using simple layered shapes, but when I started experimenting with animation it took on a life of its own. The final work visualises in form, colour, and motion the tension between social conformity and self-expression. At times all of us are required to keep ourselves under control, so that we can live and work together without having to negotiate a thousand tiny idiosyncrasies. Other times we are free to act as wild as we like, but even within this freedom we often find ourselves expressing different kinds of alignment and harmonisation. Negotiating our lives involves finding a balance between these forces: conformity and harmony on one hand, and expression and freedom on the other. As long as we share space with others, we must always think about how our actions fit in with those of the people around us.

LIA has been making [generative software art since 1995](https://www.liaworks.com), and her work has been exhibited in museums and galleries worldwide. This piece extends her signature process of overlapping simple shapes in complex ways, applying a new quality of motion to paint and re-paint the composition, forming hypnotic, shifting patterns of movement and stillness.

Being Yourself While Fitting In

'Origami Dreams' represents me in a very intimate way. It is the product of doing generative artwork for years, experimenting in the intersection between movement, poetry and mathematics. Each piece is determined by a random seed. There are two possible states in the artwork, one static and one dynamic. You can switch between the two states with a mouse click. The prime number 13 guides all of the artwork. You will get one of 13 different characters, and each 'Origami' is defined by 13 random points. There are also two layers of 'stars', completely random in color and position. The possibilities are infinite, and every mint is a different outcome.
